Nottinghamshire Parent Carer Forum (NPCF) is run by and for parents and carers from across the County
The Steering Group are all parent/carers, with children of various ages, different disabilities, and varying levels of need and support. A number of team members are volunteers and most belong to or run local support groups, enabling them to share both their own experiences and those of other parents from their region.
Due to the size of Nottinghamshire, efforts are made to have Steering Group members from the four geographic sections that make up the county, which are:
- North – Bassetlaw
- South – Gedling, Broxtowe and Rushcliffe
- East – Newark and Sherwood
- Central – Ashfield and Mansfield
The Steering Group meet once a month where they decide matters such as: the forum’s priorities, consider the work plans, plan attendance at meetings and on workstreams, and discuss matters pertaining to local SEND provision. Steering Group members are also involved in the day-to-day running of the charity.
“I got involved with NPCF as I want to make things better for others in a similar situation to me. NPCF gave me a chance to have ‘my say’ and have my voice heard by local authorities, health and the Government about how I’d like things to work”.
The structure of NPCF is as follows:
Trustees
Forum Lead
Steering Group Members
Bookkeeper
As a registered charity, NPCF must adhere to strict policies and procedures in all aspects of its work and individuals employed within the charity are expected to uphold these standards.
When a vacancy arises in the Steering Group, the position is announced through community networks, and a new member is appointed following a thorough recruitment process. The role requires strong teamwork skills, a calm, professional manner, and the ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with both colleagues and professional partners across all sectors. Any new employee will undergo training and an induction process to support them in their role.
If you are interested in becoming a Steering Group member, keep an eye out for recruitment opportunities.
“I joined NPCF because I wanted to make a difference and felt very strongly that you shouldn’t just complain about things but should try to alter them”.
If you would like to know more about how NPCF works or have any questions, please contact the Forum via the online contact form.
“Join the forum and have your voice heard. We probably haven’t had the same experience or journey as you but which family has? As a group we can work together and make things better for everyone”.
As all Steering Group members are parents and carers of children and young people with additional needs and/or disabilities, they sometimes need to prioritise their family’s needs. This may occasionally lead to delays in responding to messages. Thank you for your patience.
